SCSI..
From: EZY To: HARDWAREHACK
Hi there,… I am thinking f getting an SC2 and the 4in1 for a SCSI disk
drive(I dont have an MPI).. one problem tho…I dunno where to look for
(I hate this editor)..SCSI drives for the adapter…what exactly would I need
and where would be the cheapest place to get the stuff I need to add a 20 meg
SCSI HD to the 4in1 card?
…oops..thats a SC2..not a CC2…(Super controller 2)

Well, you can get SCSI drives (drives with built in controller) from
various places in Computer Shopper. RGB & KEN-TON also sell them. As
far as “stuff” to connect the system up.. the hookup is the ultimate
in simplicity. All you need is an interface, the drive and one
ribbon cable. Thats it! No multi-pack, no collection of ribbon cables
dangling on the table. The whole system can fit in a (large) pocket!

Ok…one more question…what controllers support SCSI? (I mean on the Hard
drive side)…If I got a bare drive wihtout controller(this editor again)
what controllers could I use (Adaptec 4000?..what others can I use?)

Well, the most popular SCSI-to-ST-506/412 controller IS the Adaptec
ACB-4000-A (note the “A” suffix… VERY important). There is another
one by “OMTI” I believe, but I have never used one and don’t know if
they work. I know that the Adaptec boards DO work perfectly and I
would suggest that you use that board. The ACB-4070 is the same thing,
but an RLL version. Frankly, I have had reliability problems with
RLL setups and I don’t sell them OR reccommend them. The ACB-4000-A
(MFM) systems have been flawless.
