heh – posted a question to him, just letting him know it’s maybe worth $25, and pointed him to the other auction linked above. He immediately goes to name-calling, insults, etc..
he insists his is the “original unboxed version, which is more valuable!”
Hah! When has a zip-locked version of a program been more valuable than an original, Infocom version, in original box?
Seller obviously has no clue!
I think he’s just ticked because he got suckered into buying it, and now is searching for another sucker to pawn it off on, while making a buck in the process!

Wear tended to occur back when they packed them in ziplocks. Also, depending on where in the store they were stocked, they might get sun-bleached if they hung around for a month or two. I guess it’s possible that this an older RS release (I think the other one I posted was also an RS package, I’m sure it hit the market before RS licensed it, and would’ve been standard Infocom packaging then). I’ve got quite a bit of RS Model I/III software in the ziplock packages (Flying Saucer, Eliza, Space Warp, Dancing Demon, Klendathu – [too bad he never ported Voyage of the Valkyrie to CoCo] right off the top of my head). Back when decent software cost $5-$10. IIRC (and I’m not going out in the garage to check right now), Flying Saucers had a Level I (250 baud) copy on one side of the tape, and a Level II (500 baud) copy on the other side.
I tend to disagree with this statement. The value of anything is based on what people will pay for it. I constantly see info-mercials that say…”A $100.00 value, and you get it free”. Well this is arbitrary. If it’s never sold for that price on an open, free market, that that’s NOT it’s value.
If he paid $500 buck for it, then that’s it’s value – to him. Flawless condition or not. However, in an open, free market, even in flawless condition, it would normally bring, say $35.00. Then, that’s it’s true value.
My point being, you say that it needs to be flawless to be $500.00. I disagree because the free, open market value is, and probably never will be anywhere near $500.00.
-On a side note… Someone posted a news article on another web site about the “Sham-Wow” guy “Vince”. It cracked me up because he was arrested last month for kicking the sh*t out of a prostitute. Just doesn’t seem right. LMAO!!!!

Considering it’s been listed a few times already, I’d say it’s market value is NOT $500.
I had some PRETTY RARE coco software I sold on fleaBay a couple years ago, and nary a one of them crossed $100-125, so I seriously doubt that this knucklehead’s Zork will reach $500, much less even $100. The other listing mentioned above kinda’ points to that fact.
Now, you go to Infocom stuff on the Apple ][ from the OLD days, and yeah, I'd go along...
1996, before eBay was eBay (it was AuctionWeb back then), I sold a program for the Apple ][ to a dude in Alaska for nearly $270. All original, in box, all the little doo-dads and doo-hickies... I know it was Part I of a multi-series, came with a map, etc... can't remember which. I also sold a copy of Zork I, same excellent condition, boxed, etc.. for the Apple II, for about $250 or so, probably around 7 years ago.
