yes, GESPAC has a nice offering. I notice lately that they have come out
with a lot of Intel/ Windows stuff. It must hurt them to have to
do that, but customers are a demanding lot! With the low price of
PC’s, a plant engineer can set up a nice operator workstation with
good graphics and never have to write a line of code– never see
a “C” compiler. Maybe the Power PC will open up a new opportunity.
Do you think K-windows will be a “hit” on the power PC?

Ken,

  > The author of that “text-based” program chose to avoid making his program
> MM/1 specific, so that he could sell it to the general MM/1 marketplace.

Yes, I am aware of the reasoning for his decision, and I would be the last
person to fault him for it. If he feels he can make substantial money by
going text based then more power to him.

  > I think you will find it difficult to convince him that he should have
> used a K-Windows interface for his program…

And I would never think of suggesting that he should have done so. As I
sai, I bought the program, and the upgrade, (and I tried to word my comments
so as not to offend him, if he sees this, or you because I think you did an
excellent job on the graphical front end and the program itself is very well
done.) The point I was making is that *I personally* prefer windowing
software, that is, windowing software that was written to window in the first
place. Hence, I would rather use a program with fewer features, (gotta watch
myself here, don’t want to offend you know who,) that uses windows well than
one which is either text based or has a graphical interface on top of a text
based program. Not to say one’s right or one’s wrong. It’s a matter of personal
preference. I’ve just made my choice to support (as user and programmer)
(native) windowing software from now on.

I hope no offense was taken. Certainly none was meant.

..Eric…

89699 2-SEP 00:25 Applications (6809)
OSTerm/68K
From: KSCALES To: TIMKIENTZLE

> I’d be interested in hearing about this new OSTerm/68k. I always
> thought OSTerm/Tascom had a lot of potential, but fell down in
> the details (file transfer bugs, emulation bugs, etc.). I’d
> be interested to hear that someone addressed those problems.

Hi, Tim -

Yes, OSTerm/68K has been considerably enhanced compared with OSTerm/6809
and TasCOM. The current official release is version 2.2.0; however a few
folks have a “beta test” version 2.2.1.

I don’t have a complete list of the changes, but will list the ones that
come to mind… (I’ve included some of the known limitations, too.)

  – (prompted) ASCII file transfers are now fully implemented. (Vaughn
added them to the menus when he started working on them, but hadn’t
yet finished the code.)
– Y-batch no longer resets the filelength to 0 on ASCII transfers.
(Side-effect: sometimes the xmodem padding will not be stripped.
Perhaps a future release will cover this.)
– provision added for 3 external protocols. These are defined by the
user in the osterm.config file, and become bound into the standard
OSTerm Transfer and Filepicker menu sequences, just like the native
protocols, so they appear fully integrated to the user. (I use Zmodem,
Kermit Binary, and Kermit ASCII).
– ANSI emulation has been enhanced to include all of the normal
IBM/BBS sequences, 16 foreground and 8 background colours (with
correct palettes).
– VT100 emulation has been significantly enhanced:
– host programmable tabs (also, user settable in config file; default
is the VT100 standard default)
– scrolling regions (Version 2.2.0 only has absolute origin mode;
V2.2.1 beta has relative origin mode, too).
– User selectable “Newline mode” and “Autowrap at margin” added
– many other changes/fixes too numerous to mention to bring it in
line with the VT102 “ANSI” mode.
– limitations: special character sets not supported; 80×24 mode only.
– improved ANSI/VT100 keyboard emulations (e.g., “left arrow” and “ctrl-B”
are differentiated), with online “Keyboard Assignments” menu
– can generate a true “line break”
– RTS/CTS or XON/XOFF flow control supported.
– “Rate adjust” lock to suppress autobauding for modern high-speed modems
– separate Options file for each port (/t0, /t3, etc.)
– “Echo to file” (buffer capture) now strips linefeeds AND ANSI/VT100
control sequences. Also allows append-to-file.
– A “binary” emulation mode has been added, to enable capture of all
received data, but only printing “safe” characters to the screen.
– Remote Mode can be enterred directly from command line:
osterm -r
(or) osterm -r=/dd/directory_path_to_use
– 7-bit mask (oops; bug in V2.2.0; fixed in V2.2.1 beta version)
– numbers expanded to 24-digits in autodialer
– a “graphical front end” for mouse addicts and to make it easier for
casual users. This is, frankly, a bit “clumsier” than we would like,
but since our plans are to evolve OSTerm/68K away from its current
K-Windows dependency, we implemented this as a separate module (“OST”)
to avoid putting more K-Windows stuff into the main program.
– significantly improved manual written by Colin McKay.
– many other tweeks and enhancements.

Hope this provides the info you wanted.

Cheers… / Ken
————————————————————————–
Ken Scales Delphi:KSCALES Internet:kscales@delphi.com CIS:74646,2237

During tonight’s conference I heard mention of a program called DMode. I
just downloaded it, but AR will not decompress it, because of a CRC error. My
first guess, which was right, was that Xmodem padding had changed the archive
during upload. Its description on Delphi claims that I “…must <d>iddle it to
$1C4C”. I have no idea how to do this. I downloaded DED but it had the same
problem! I desperately need DMode! Any help will be greatly appreciated!

This seems to be everywhere else such as here in FORUM,
in MAIL, in downloading, to abort the operation, you use 3 CTRL-Cs, etc.
I just checked and my terminal emulation is ANSI and not VT100. When
I first configured OSTERM I had used VT100 and thought I still was. I
guess I will have to reset it when I get off-line. I did not know of
a full screen mode for the editor out here. The Official Guide does
not inpart a lot of useage information, I have found that a lot of the
things have to be learned by trial and error. I will check into this.
Thank you Paul. See ya.

89250 12-AUG 20:47 Applications (6809)
New Software Announcement
From: MRUPGRADE To: ALL

            ** New software Announcement **
** HOME-PAC OS – Home Manager **
Developed by Terry Simons with over six years of upgrading
the RSDOS Version, this became a very powerful set of software.
Basically it is a check program that turns into a home
accountant. Suitable to keep books for personal, business, and
club activities. A strong point thoroughout this package it’s
personalization features. Which makes many entries a one key
(macro) or default entry. John Hoit (CoCo user gone to PC in ’93)
said, “I have yet to find a program that inputs and handles data
with the ease of Home-Pac”.
With a mailer, that would will a from a Christmas card list to
publishers data base. Many have stated it was unrivaled for CoCo
RSDOS Software of it’s kind.
Now under OS-9 Chris Dekker has incorprated still more
features. And through the use of windows an increased processing
speed, “Home-Pac OS” now rivals anything avalaible on the CoCo.
1. All programs menu enter tied.
2. Handles two seperate accounts from one menu.
2. Full 80 column displays, giving an over view.
4. Creditcard & Check balances constant on screen.
5. Generally does things with ease, taking the
“work” out of “Bookwork”.
6. With an equally powerful Mailer.
7. Plus “Disk Jacket” program to help you find your files fast.
8. And “From-Maker” for shopping lists, Scorecards, etc.
9. With INSTALL program no OS knowledge is needed.
Sold for years as the best RSDOS can offer,
now even better under OS-9.
Requires COCO 3, 80 Column monitor, Drive, and OS Lev II.
Outside MI&CC sold only by: C Dekker Software,
RR#4, Centreville, NB Canada, EOJ 1OH
$29.95 plus $4.00 shipping Please where you saw this.

Has anyone ever experienced any problems using the PcDos program in moving
large files? I’m trying to move a 389K file from my 720k /d1 and the program
works fine on about 1/2 the file and then aborts by saying “ERROR: Read
Failed”. I checked the disk on my pc and the .zip file tests fine and I’m
able to move it back and forth on the pc. The command I’m using is:
pcdos -get -raw /d1 filename.zip /h1/temp/filename.zip

I’ve used PcDos many times before and have not run into this problem before.
I don’t recall trying to move something this large though, and was wondering
if there is some limitation of the file size that can be moved. Any ideas
will be appreciated.

I am pretty
sure it’s my modem and it’s settings, but everything I’ve tried hasn’t
worked. My modem is an AMT Star 2400e. Does anyone know if there is an
incompatibility problem with this modem?
What is happening is, I will hit the online command, or the
manual dial, but when it is supposed to dial, it just sends the init
string to the modem<or some string, as I see the SD and TR lights
flash briefly>. It doesn’t dial, but just sits there momentarily and
does nothing until it returns a MODEM ERROR string. Mark and Bill are
both about as lost on this as I am, which tells me it has to be
something with the Modem

87464 20-MAY 00:24 Applications (6809)
Unix Cat
From: ILLUSIONIST To: ALL

Hello all, I have just finished getting a new “version” of the UNIX “cat”
utility working under OS-9/6809 …the one I had from the databases on here
(OS-9 User Group) was not as robust as I liked, so I went about writing a
new one. The version I have working now has most UNIX options working, plus
it has a few more (-f will filter out all control characters, making it
do the job of an LF filter, and -e will “echo” the output to StdERR)

-e will com in handy if the user does something like this :

cat -e file.name > /p

since STDout gets re-directed to /p, the user wont be able to see the
file on his/her screen.. with -e it will print it to both the screen
and printer, without the need of “tee”.

control char. expansion is working to.. so all controls become ^<char>
-t will expand all tabs to spaces..

I will probably upload it sometime soon (perhaps with the next batch
of Basic09 subroutines).. but I dont know when that will be.. if anyone
wants a “working” cat (oh yeah, all error messages are actually reported
now.. instead of error #001 always being reported..) just let me know
and I will upload it..

                                               -* Mike

I remember some time ago asking if there was an automatic archive
conversion utility that could convert any archive to any type
automatically. On My old ibm when I had one, I used to use a tool
called zzap. It converted archives based on the information that I
provided in a file called zzap.dat. Meaning if an archiver exsisted
for a specific extension, it would know what to do with it. I used to
use this program automatically when my BBS was running on my XT to
automatically convert archives on the fly as an event. I use LHA 2.11
both on my IBM and the Coco 3. Since I no longer have an IBM
compatible. I no longer have ZZAP. Of course two problems with zzap.
1. it could not do AR files as there was no official AR program
for os9 files at the time I used to run my bbs system
2. It does not know the difference from LHA 2.11 or the LZH
bastardization that we have lurking around

The third problem which I must clearly say, IT DOES NOT EXSIST on
the COCO! I would Kill for a ZZAP processor system for my coco! I am
phasing out AR and guess what? I have to process over 5,000 .AR
files! Now if there was a time I needed a robot batch file converter
system…. It is now!
ZZAP could convert any archive to any other archive type. For a
short time I was using PKUNZIP 2.04G and converting to pkzip 1.10. It
had seperate statements in zzap.dat for archiving and dearchiving
tools. It did Nested archives quick and painlessly. it did archives
that created directories just as easily making the sub directories
into archives of the specified type.
I used it to covert from Zip to Zip. ZIP to PKARC. Zip to Zoo,
Zip to LBR (CP/M type systems use LBR archives, I was a CP/M
Repository and had 8″ drives to read H47 CP/M disks on the system as
well as for DOS usage). The simple fact was it could convert anything
to anything providing you had those archivers/dearchivers installed
on your system!
I know I can be cruel at times with tough demands but I beg of
any one who has the time to desigh such a beast! Oh yeah I know how
to get around AR’s miserable files like this
…./cmds/pain_in_the_side
where it would transverse your tree 4 times? Heres the fun trick
using ded.
lets see your workspace is /dd/test
go into ded from the root of /dd and type
ded test
Notice where the .. points (2e ae for those who do know know abut the
high bit setting) on my 10 meg second HD the 2e Ae pointed to 15 as a
LSN. and AE pointed to 1D (empty work drive thats why things are so
clean). Change the LSN in the 2E AE entry to 1D and write out
cd into /dd/test and try to cd out with ..
like this cd ..
you will be stuck in /dd/test! No matter how many periods you stack
on that line!
you can return to the root by typing chd /dd and it will work fine.
Deleteing your test directory with DELDIR will choak though. to do
that you have to edit your /dd/test directory to return the 2E AE to
point back to the root entry. then deldir would work ok.
I am only mentioning this so that people who get those noxious AR
files can convert them without hunting in their cmds directory for
the pieces! It would make the CMDS directory in /dd/TEST! That may be
a nessary evil for the processor btw.
OH yeah about ZZAP.dat you not only supplied the working
directory you could supply a directory called BADPATH= your place for
bad archives as well as if you wanted virus scanning. To do the
actual conversion. you supplied filename pathlists on the command
line like this
zzap d:\dloads\*.*
zzap would determine what archives were what in the d:\dloads
directory automatically based on what archive extensions where listed
in zzap.dat This line was usually stuck in the dos environment uless
you were in the directory zzap lived.. for us the /dd/sys directory
for zzap.dat would suffice. It would automatically convert the
archives and would automaticaly delete the old archives unless you
specified otherwise. It checked for nested archives and archives that
had sub directory entries. It did these conversions in the directory
you specified in zzap.dat.
Now I gave you some info. Will one of you great hackers create
one? ZZAP (the title) is copyrighted but maybe since it is shareware
you can find the author and ask permission to port it.
Michele Marie Dalene

Well, after constantly putting it off, I recently<finally> got
Multi-Vue up and running. This time around, I played it smart and
abandoned ALL of it’s documentation<grin>. My only prorblem right
now<before I install the Gshell patch> is that the only way I can get
some programs to run is by clicking it once and then selecting ‘Open’
in the files menu. I know this is one way to do it, but isn’t this
only necessary when the command will have some options o iuldn’t I be able to just simply click the icon once for it to
execute?
Anyhow, MultiVue don’t look too bad but it isn’t gonna be where
the majority of my work is done. I’ll always be another command line
man at heart
>Chris<

As Tom says,,, you may be able to find MAX-10, Word Power etc. (Rick does
carry Simply Better),, if youo dig deep enouhh,, nad have enough past years
magazines to dig through.
However,, to satisfy Tom Fann,, I’ve looked in some of my system buys, disk
files (I usually take all disks with). And have several “Original Coppies
each”. Since I don’t place a high value on used software,, I7ll just put
‘em in the library.
Is that OK with you TOM?
they are original disks.
However this is not a general for sale thing (no EMAIL please). It is
a club listing for members (and (smile) Tom).
Thanks for the plug Frank.
Til then,,, Terry Simons

Word Power is still available from Microcom Software, the very same people
who used to advertise in The Rainbow. It is in no way “orphanware”. I
talked to them on the phone last weekend and informed MRUPGRADE that he
should not consider it “orphanware”. Just because a vendor no longer
advertises does not mean he is out of business. All you have to do to check
is pick up the phone. Unfortunately, the last known number for Cognitec
(Telewriter) “has been disconnected”.

BTW, CoCo Max III and Max-10 are still available from Alpha Products
(Colorware), as they have been for years. MRUPGRADE was informed of this also.
Someone
told him these products are “orphanware”. Not true.

I am just getting around to trying the GShell mods here for MVue and am
having two troubles.

   1. When I get to GShell_1.24a the ipatch file for GShell_1.25 gives
me an error message “Incorrect file size…patch not complete.”

   2. So I thought I would just rename GShell_1.24a and use it as GShell,
but MVue can’t find GShell if I do that.

   3. As a side comment, when I tried GShell32.pat it wouldn’t work either.
It said “Enter Gshell.Pat pathname….over and over and over no matter
what path I entered.

How does one get through this maze?

Thanks in advance.

Frank,

The only negative factor about “Simply Better” regarding Keith’s original
post is that he wanted to import text to “Home Publisher” which I assume
he is using in OS9. So I was trying to point him to OS9 programs which
produce ascii files. Then he could also use TSSpellsme of my corespondence where
different fonts and/or graphics are required. I guess I would like to be
able to do this from OS9, but in all other respects, the TS series has
done well by me. I believe the series would do what you have spelled out
as YOUR requirements. The vi patches, available here on Delphi in the OS9
sig, are mandatory if you want to run the series under OS9 lvl2.

As some one else pointed out, if you are familiar with vi on UNIX,
the TS series, particularly TSEDIT with the vi patches, will look very
familiar. Others have brought out that support for current third party
dealers rather than continuing to support the first party that has turned
their back on the system has merit. I might point out that buying from
the above mentioned first party and getting “free” software out of the sig
database has the same effect on the third party suppliers. But, if it
means getting the job done or going with out because of the buck$, then go
for what you can afford.

     I do’special on ALL
of the TS packs! So I got TSEDIT, TSWORD and TSSPELL all for less than $50!

I had recently learned vi on UNIX, and I quickly realized TSEDIT was going
to be VERY similar to vi. I looked at TSWORD and trashed it off the bat. I
did not care for its icon interface. And at the time I did not need the
functionality of TSFMT. I did like TSSPELL a lot.

Later when I got just a little more involved with Word Processing, I
realized I needed a text formatter. I looked around and decided on
mroff, as it was more functional than TSFMT and it was free.

But I still wasn’t happy. I knew there had to be something better out
there. Before going to OS-9, I had done a little Word Processing with
Telewriter-128, written by Bob van der Poel. I noticed an ad in a new
magazine I had just subscribed to, The CoCo Clipboard (I’m sure a lot
of you will recognize that name!), from Bob van der Poel Software for
an OS-9 editor program he had called VED (for Visual EDitor). He didn’t
want too much for in8 so you can load it up in your startup script
in a single memory block and your editor is always ready for you. It
can edit a file of any size up to ~54K, grabbing as much memory as it
needs and growing in memory as the edit session demands. Plus, since it
was written by Bob, it had virtually the SAME function keys as the editor
for TW-128!! So the learning curve for me (since I had used TW-128) was
super quick.

I wrote to Bob that I was pleased with VED and now it appeared that he
had merely taken the editor portion of the TW-128 code and ported it
to OS-9. And now all we OS-9′ers needed was for him to port the text
formatter portion of it to OS-9 as well. Less than a year later, VPrint
hit the market. It is by far the most powerful text editor available
for the CoCo3. It has tools I have yet to discover and use!

So, yes, for many users needs, TSEDIT/TSWORD/TSSPELL are fine, but when
your needs get a little more serious, the VED/VPRINT/TSSPELL configuration
looks better and better!

-
Well, the 8450 IS pretty decent.. the older VS100s we had before this were
a bit of a pain… that was TWO VS100 models linked together… had to keep
‘em coordintated when bringing the system back up or taking it down. If one
crashed, you could sometimes re-start without messing with the other, depending
on HOW it crashed! We get occasional corrupted files and such for seemingly
no reason whatsoever. We can only IPL and hope that clears it up. Recently
it displayed intermittent problems, so I reset the thing, only to have on
e heck of a time getting it started again. I crashed about two hours after
users really started getting on! Got everyone off, then reset it again,
and everything has been sweet since! But I’m about to start it back up from
a reset now….

Hello OS9 fans; Long time no type.

A quick question (you know, the typeat invariably requires extended answers).

Ive noticed that Rad Shak is selling
TSEDIT and its companion products for
a fairly inexpensive price and have
thought about buying it. I’d like to
get your input on the packages capabilities etc… I beleive TSEDIT itself
is going for less than $20 so I dont expect perfection but nor do I want
complete uselessness. To give a yardstick, we (My wife and I) are currently
using SCRIPTSIT.

Thanx in advance for your help,
Smeagol (haaaaakkkk…phooothey)

I have just stumbled into the middle of this thread. Have you considered
tranfering the data to Dcalc? Other systems such as Lotus and other multiple
program systems use the database to store the data and then use the spreadsheet
to display it. I have both programs and remember reading about doing the
transfer, but I’d have to look it up as to how it is accomplished.

Shell is NOT part of the boot. It must be present to complete the boot as the
boot routine must have
shell to pass control off to when it finishes. I merely renamed the original
shell, shelO for shell original
and start a window using “shelO i=/w#” where #=the window number I want to start

with that shell in it.

        >>There was one update for profile called datamaster,…

Yeah, I have that, but there hasn’t been a time after I started
that, that it hasn’t crashed<my entire system that is> so I don’t
bother with it no more.
>>why do you say only 5 lines for detail?

Well, the display format for the screen that get’s the
information takes a whole page, and I am trying to create a report
format that will look similar to that. There will be other report
formats for parts of the record being accessed by certain keys. For
instance if the person only wants a listing of boards within a certain
area code, I’ll have a format prepared with only the fields
appropriate for that. I also tho, want to have a format that displays
ALL the records information and that requires a whole page. If I send
out let’s say, the whole database, I would have a page for each
record. Here is what my display format looks like now<so far> and most
likely this will be the final version of this display:
——————————————————————–

   Board Name: (“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”) Last Updated:
(“”"”"”"”"”) Theme:
(“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”)
Sysop: (“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”)
City: (“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”) State: (“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”)
Country: (“”"”"”"”"”"”"”")
Phone Number: (“”") (“”")-(“”"”)
Minimum Baud Rate: (“”"”") Max Baud Rate: (“”"”")
Word Length/Parity/Stop Bits: (“)/(“)/(“)
Supported Networks:
(“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”)
Miscellaneous Comments
(“”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”)

84210 19-DEC 21:55 Applications (6809)
Profile
From: THETAURUS To: ALL

If there is anyone out there with experience with OS-9 Profile, I
need a little help. I am pretty close to finishing my project of
creating a database for all OS9 and Coco Clubs and UG’s, and one for
all Coco and OS9 related BBS’. I am of course using OS9 Profile. What
I first worked on was the database for the Club listing. I created the
fields for that and defined the display format<i believe that is
finished. I haven’t gotten back to that in about a week now>. Then I
started working on the BBS base, defined the fields, and then defined
the display format, in the process deleting some fields which I later
found unnecessary, and adding others that I later felt I needed. The
Display format is now finished, and I have now gone onto the report
format. This is where my problem is. Is there any way, possibly
through a patch, that you can get more than *5* detail lines? I can’t
believe it is limited to only five, since I want to include all the
data from the record, and that will take up a whole page for each
record. I finished the first report format. I am now just creating
different formats for different purposes, while I wait to find a way
to devote a whole page to each record<since there will be times when
all information from the WHOLE database will be mailed out>. For
instance my first report is for records sorted by area code, and then
there will be another for the ones sorted by state, etc, with only
applicable info in each report. Once I get this figured out, I will
finish up the Club base.
On a side note, now that I’ve had a bit of experience with
profile and did some learning, I think it still is a pretty good
<tho
outdated> program on the whole. I really wish a 3rd party was able to
pick this up and continue it’s support, as it could have really shaped
up to be a heck of a program. The bad part is, it’s slow, it is short
on documentation<i don't think they covered enough>, and of course it
is lacking some features. Keep in mind tho, this was created for Level
I back in about 1985, so at the time it was probably cutting edge. On
the bright side, it is solid, funtional, bug free, and pretty
flexible in the amount of Display and report formats you can have. It
would be nice to be able to have more memory to add more fields, but
so far that is bearable. I still say this is better than the bug fest
I had with Data Windows<which shows potential if it could only have
it’s bugs worked out>.
Btw, if you have any suggestions as to what info I should include
in the databases<before it's finished and I start adding records>,
please let me know. I’ve never run a BBS or a Club or UG, so there may
be info I am missing. If you want I can’t post what the display format
looks for each base, showing what info is included so far.
>Chris<

I’m not sure exactly what the problem(s) is(are) between shell+ and BASIC09,
but I do know that when using shell+ B09 can sometimes have problems locating
modules that are even in memory. As a result I have one window that opens
on boot that has the original shell that came with OS9 just for running
B09 programs. Try running Window Writer in such a window and see what
happens.

I have a 720K 3 1/2″ drive on the CoCo and a 1.4M 3 1/2″ drive on the PC
And I have drives c and d as hard disks so I have my e drive set up as
a 720K so that I can format a disk on the PC that my CoCo can read
under OS-9. I also have a couple of PC programs that will read the
CoCo 5 1/4″ but I believe that it requires the PC to have a DD drive
rather than a HD. I kept my DD PC 5 1/4″ just for that reason.
It may be that the PC 3 1/2″ drive will read a 35 tk COCO formatted
disk but I don’t remember the short docs on the PC program mentioning
it. If you do not solve your problem, e-mail me and I will do more
research or I can get the exact file names of the PC stuff for you.

Wes,
I am haveing problems with the lha archiver and Nitro v1.16. I gave
details of the problem in message #83463. Basically what is happening
is lha will lock up when executed under Nitro v1.16 but will work fine
with v1.15! The differences between the 1.15 and 1.16 boot disks is:
CC3Go.nv116, CC3IO.nv116, RBF30.nv116.
I’m pretty sure thats theonly differences between the 2 boots.
I don’t have RBF30 in the v1.15 boot, I used the Tandy RBF when I 1st
got nitro and only recently patched rbf30 up to v1.16 nitro. Let me know
if you need more info!
Thanks,
Wayne

ps. I love NitrOS-9!

I have a problem you could relay to Gene about lha 2.11b, I will also
notify Wes Gale as the problem is that lha will stop in the middle of
execution when I try to archive something. Here is th output:

Creating archive : test.lzh

==> Freezing file.txt       oooooo

^ lha will STOP right here.
The temporary file exists but it is not a “legal” lzh file. ie. it seems
to lockup before it gets to the renameing portion of the program.
The reason I am also going to tell Wes is that this only happens when
I’m booted up with NitrOS-9 v1.16. LHA works fine with Nitro v1.15!
Thanks,
Wayne

Al, what you need is either Burke & Burke’s REPACK or CBM utilitity. They
both re-organize your drive a bit and clean up fragmentation. I think
CBM only cleans up fragmentation in the bit map while repack cleans up
both the bitmap and the physical as well as logical fragmentation, un-
fragmenting files as well as the drive itself. CBM is faster, but
repack is probably more complete. See if you can find either utility,
both work with floppies as well as hard drives. Good luck.
Dave

I have received carl Kreider’s permission to upload the new version of ar.
So, as soon as it is approved, do it to it. Remember, Shell+ users must patch
shell+ to take care of the memory allocation problems in order for it to work.

I’m only now getting into some of the better features of OS-9. I downloaded
Shell+ and I want to install it, but I don’t fully understand the instructions.
Can someone out there give me a hand? I unpacked the file but the documents
don’t mention most of the files. The module save is a mystery to me. The only
copy of save I have was a B09 program supplied with Tools3. Shell+ would really
make my life easier, so if you are familiar with it please drop me a note.
Thanks.

-Mike

82409 24-OCT 01:59 Applications (6809)
Helper wanted to prepare Colorful Sled E
From: SFISCHER To: ALL

Helper wanted to prepare Colorful Sled ED6 for Delphi.

I have realized that I will not have the time to prepare the doc’s for my
version of SLED due to other commitments for quite some time. So that it will be

available sooner, I am asking for someone to accept the parts, send out copies
for beta testing and prepare the docs and the distribution package. I will fix
if I can any catastrophic bugs of course.

Colorful Sled ED6 has been unchanged since a minor bug fix done in February
1991. Most of the bugs in the original version, which was pulled from this data
base, have been fixed and new features added.

Some of the new features include easy full screen editing and running Basic09
programs, 105 columns possible on graphics screens, macros (No Load/Save) and
selected text lines to be moved/deleted/written out are displayed in a different

color.

Other than starting from similar original programs, this version has no relation

to other versions in this forum.

If you are willing to help, please sent me a message.

I may be slow to reply so don’t worry if I don’t respond quickly. All I can say
is that sometime within each month I will use my 4 hours.

        Thanks Stephen Fischer
