Welp, pick up two new CD-i titles today. Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam, and
Dragons lair II: Timewarp. Both are excellent.

Mutant Rampage is a fast paced, knock ‘em, sock ‘em, beat the heck outa
the Mutant bad guys game… It has 4 levels, the first 3 have 3 different
scenes (citys), the last just one (New York, the roughest/tuffest place in the
world). This is a real action game! and quite challengeing. The graphics are
supurb, along with the background music and sound effects. This is by far
my favorate game so far, really gets the heart pumping!

Dragons Lair II, is, of course the sequeal to the famous Dragons Lair
game. I haven’t played it in depth yet, but it definately starts out much
harder then the original. Once again the graphics/sound and action are great.

I noticed several more new titles in the local Best Buy(s) this weekend. They
must have finally got their XMas releases in… Hall of Fame Football,
Earth Control (or something like that) and one other game struck my interest
but I didn’t want to drop too much $$$ all at once… And I saw Dances With
Wolves there too, which I definately will get next time I have a chance
and some extra $$$… Looks like there will be lots of good stocking
stuffers for poeple with CD-i players!
–
Paul Jerkatis – SandV BBS (708)352-0948: OS-9 Support
UUCP: amiserv.xnet.com!vpnet!sandv!mithelen …or… mithelen@sandv.chi.il.us
Internet: MITHELEN@Delphi.com

To get by this, when you first walk in, you jump to the opposite side of
where the beam is going to fire. A few moments later, Dexter jumps forward.
As he begins that jump, pull back. As soon as he lands, go forward.

Do you need the move to make to finish level three? or the first move(s)
for level 4? (I think you mean the latter) I’m about half way though
level 4, it took me a few days to figure out the first two/three moves.
If you really want to know, I’ll let you know in Mail so as not to give
any spoilers to people that want to solve it theirselves…
–
Paul

I just recieved E-Mail from Jim Pruyne regarding the game “Ogre” I recently
posted to chestnut and to Delphi.

>Unfortunately, I can’t keep this submission. A while ago, I had an Ogre
>like game on the server, but I received e-mail directly from Steve Jackson
>Games saying that they were enforcing their copyright on Ogre, and would not
>allow any Ogre like software to be distributed. I don’t know how strong
>their claim would be, but I’m in no position to test them .

I guess this means that the program will have to be removed from the data
base here on Delphi as well so I’ve asked the database managers here to
remove it.

I recently downloaded Allen Huffmans Maze demo which is a
generator to make developing maze style games easier. The first thing
that popped in my head was…”Boy would it be nice to have a Dungeons
of Daggorath part 3, this time on OS-9″. Really, the demo looks neat,
and I think the Coco is due for another sequel to perhaps the greatest
game Tandy ever made for the Coco.

I remember some discussion about this before, but I am having trouble
with Shanghai in Multi-vue. Shanghai works fine in a 40 x 24 graphics
window, but will not draw the windows in Multi-vue. I get an error 201
instead. How can the path be different in Multi-vue if I am using the
same diskette to load the game outside of Multi-vue and it works? What
paths are different?

84751 8-JAN 12:04 Games & Graphics
Shanghai for Level 2
From: COLORSYSTEMS To: ALL

I recently downloaded Shawn (EARTHER) Driscoll’s Shanghai for Level 2. Shawn
did an excellent job working within the confines of BASIC09 and illustrates
well the capabilities of his BASIC09 tools package, GUIB. Of course, it
goes without saying that it is slow in response and action. I had heard
that the OSK basic on my MM/1a was pretty much compatable at the source
level so I was wondering how fast it would run on my OSK system. I also have
a copy of Kevin Darling’s bgfx which is pretty much compatable with gfx2.

So, I go an edit the source to:

        1) change all gfx2 calls to bfgx calls.

        2) changed the window type codes in the DWSet and the GPLoad calls
from type 8 to type 3.

        3) Haven’t changed these yet, but I suppose I will need to add second
and third params to the Palette calls there are.

        4) Made the same changes in the guib.b09 program. It loads with no err
ors
and packs just fine.

I am getting an error 102 though when I try to load the Shanghai.b09 and the
stopping point is accessing the return value from a SYSCALL. If I hadn’t taken
the
Basic manual out of my OSK manual set (you know typical it is for MW to have
more documentation than will fit in the binders they give you, right?) to
make some room (I hardly EVER mess with basic), I probably could look this
up for myself, but I have missplaced where I put the manual I extracted.

The program DIMs a variable regs to the datatype registers OK. But after a
SYSCALL to determine the PID, how do I reference the returned value in
Register D0? The CoCo3 version got it from regs.a, but there is no a register
on a 68K MPU. It comes back in the D0 register. I tried changing the
variable regs.a to regs.d0 but that gives me an 020 error during the
program load.

Can anyone help? If so, with Shawn’s permission, I will upload the OSK
source for this nice game.

        >>WHY! just because you don’t! MOST people who brought a NEW MM/1
etc were hackers, or people handy with a soldering iron, and adapt at
some programming and had worked with a Coco…

The whole point of having the MM/1 and other related machines
available is to GET AWAY from that train of thought. If we continue
with that thinking we might as well toss in the towel and drop the
68xxx machines, since it will only end up being 5 people telling
eachother how to hack the machine to make it work, rather than a user
friendly machine for people with at least half a brain. It may not be
MAC friendly right away, but as long as it’s decent…
Turn the point of view around and look at it this way, just
because YOU like to hack, why should this machine have to be hacked by
ALL other users for it to work. Many don’t have the knowledge you
obviously have. If you enjoy hacking, hold on to your Coco. Remember
just because most of the people who own MM/1′s now are former Coco
users, the only way to expand the market is to get people from outside
the Coco community, since 1) there aren’t that many left if Coco land
anyway and 2) They need users who spend money (DUCK!!!)<grin>. Now if
we tell THESE people, “Well, if you want a joystick, just cut and
trace this to that and hack up this etc…”,do you honestly think they
are gonna stay?
>> If you want ease of use, ETc go buy a Amega or a MAC..or
IBM…….<groan>……Dennis

OUCH…I’m glad that isn’t the thinking at Blackhawk, Dirt Cheap
Software, or other MM/1 vendors, or we would DEFINATELY be in a hole
right now<grin>!

Btw, to clarify things to those with an interest in the MM/1; I
am not saying it ISN’T user friendly. I’ve heard that for the most
part it is, but have never seen the machine myself. I am just trying
to make a point, and am using that for argument’s sake.
See Ya
>Chris<

</grin></groan></grin>

Making the MM/1 as compatible with CoCo hardware as possible was a
sensible idea, for the most part, but there is only so far that this should
have been carried. How is anyone who doesn’t have an old CoCo joystick going
to use the MM/1′s joystick port? These joystcks aren’t sold anymore by anyone!

I seem to remember that back in the days some company sold an adaptor to
make the CoCo 6-pin DIN joystick port accept traditional Atari type joystick
plugs. Does anyone know if the company and/or the product still exist?

It won’t make much sense to write siftware that uses a piece of next-to-
impossible to find equipment.

I downloaded the exe’s a second time choosing them because that is
the smaller of
the two files. Again the file is corrupted somehow. I tried both lha211b and
LHArc. Yeah I know, why is a guy with a 6809 downloading OSK stuff? First
I wanted to see if I could get the source to compile and fly on a 6809.
Second I have a friend that has an MM/1 and I thought I’d grab it for him.
Anyway I can’t get either archive to open, even for a directory. I guess I better get her a copy. One thing though, it
mentions a utility called VRN. Although its not essential, this utility
would make the graphics smoother according to the docs. I checked the
applications DB here and can’t find it. Does anyone know where I can obtain
this utility? Its written by Bruce Isted. Any help would be appreciated.
If anyone is on the fence about this game, go for it… It is first
quality and well thought out. I thought it would be a carbon of ARKANOID
but it is not. There are some nice features here that are miles ahead of
that game. Even without VRN, the graphics are first rate. With VRN, I
can’t say yet but its hard to see how it could be better. I would like
to find out. Thanx Alan!
Board: Triangle Game : 3 Time : 4:48

This really is a fun game!

I don’t know his address but SMASH! is being distributed by:

     Northern Xposure
7 Greenboro Cres
Ottawa, ON
Canada
K1T 1W6
(613) 736-0329

It is a fairly simmple breakout type game, but with 32 levels, 17 block styles
and the ability to customize, it is never boring. They print a warning in the
documentation about the addictive nature of the game that is worth reading!

I am not affiliated with Northern Xposure other than I know the guys
personnally. I do not know if they can take phone orders with a credit card. All

I can say is call them and find out.

ps: I did SEE Smash! in action in Atlanta and let me say I was quite impressed.
It is a “Breakout” style of game but is 100 times more “dynamic” than Breakout
was. It looks particularly good on a supercharged (6309) CoCo.
