Hi to all, i played alot the game seventh link for the pasts weeks, and i need help to finish the game.

So far, i got 6 energy pack and i recharged them.

I am missing only one, i searched alot but didnt find it.

I have found 3 on Dulfan, 1 on Elira and 2 on Kallios, none on Selenia.

One thing that is strange, in the instructions of the game, its written that one energy pack is in a chest on the lower level of the giantish castle? On the first castle at the start of the game, there is a locked door that i cant open, maybe the energy pack is behind?

Does anybody ever succeeded that game? I gave up in 1989 but i have to complete that game now!

HELP!

Hello.

I know that Basic09 allows for assembly language programming under OS-9. However, I am wondering if anyone knows of an assembler application that allows the full use of the CoCo 3′s 512KB of RAM and its new graphics modes under OS-9 Level II. I am a newbie to OS-9, just getting a Cloud-9 SuperIDE controller with built-in NitrOS-9 Level II for the Hitachi 6309 microprocessor at the 2012 Last CoCoFEST!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Does anyone have a version of Sailor Man that is patched for color on a RGB monitor? I have tried the Spectral RGBPATCH but it doesn’t work for this particular game. Sailor Man is one of the best COCO2 games out there. It is really well done and better in many ways than other versions on other 8-bit computers. It would be nice to be able to show it off in color.

Here it is.

** Edit:
I deleted previous post. Had a bad disk image. This one should be good.

When finally I did manage to download it, the exe wouldn’t run and screwed up my browser such that I had to reboot my pc. I’ll pay for the emulator if that’s what this is all about. Until MESS makes it easier to download, I’ll stick with my real COCO.

Hi,

I have this bare-boned coco3 that I just repaired. I’m using the cassette port for transferring games but I think I need a better device.

I was wondering about the SuperIDE but the manual doesn’t tell you how to transfer files on it. Didn’t find any detailed review on internet.

So my question is: with only the SuperIDE would I be able to transfer files from PC to the CF (can I plug the CF on PC and copy disk images on it) ? Remember I don’t have a multi-pak nor FD-502, nor HB-DOS. Just the coco3 and the SuperIDE.

Does the SuperIDE come with the HB-DOS rom ? Would I be able to play my favorite binary games on it ? Or do I need any extra hardware? Does it fit on lateral slot with a CF card plugged on it ?

Thanks.

Hi,

I have a bare-boned coco3 that I’m using my own built cable to transfer files through cassette port. I did succeeded for some files like buzzard.bin as:

cocotape buzzard.bin -csavem

It generates a wav file and I can load it into my coco3. But the same command doesn’t work for games like calixto.bin, seaquest.bin, it generates a very small file. What I’m doing wrong ? I tried together with -g option and it didn’t work either.

So, I have an old 16K coco2. After all of these years I would like to revive it and play around a bit. I do not want to do anything major. Basically play some games with my Daughter and write some basic programs and save to disk for old times sake.

2 things:

1.) Output to VGA… Possible? I read that one person used a http://www.amazon.com/Mygica-SuperColor-Converter-Definition-Standalone/dp/B000XY6N5Y/ref=sr_1_50?ie=UTF8&qid=1342244217&sr=8-50&keywords=coax+to+VGA to do this and that it worked well. Thoughts?

2.) I saw some of these SD card mods that let you load and save programs from them. Is it as simple as plugging it into the program pack slot and then loading the files like you would from floppy or cassette, or is it more complicated than this?

I saw that for the one SD card thing from could9 that you need to have at least a 64K coco1 or 2. Are there other SD solutions or do I need to pick up a new coco? (I would rather do this then mess with the electronics)

Oh.. One other thing… I used to have a game called “Peanut Butter Panic” on Cassette. I would LOVE to play this with my Daughter if anyone has a copy of this.

Thanks for any info or help that you can provide. I really look forward to writing a basic program and saving to disk and then eating some sandwiches in Peanut Butter Panic with my Daughter… *crosses fingers*

I’m feeling a bit lost. Maybe I’m not looking in the right place or I’m just having a brain fart. So here it is in a nutshell.

How in the world do I convert files from MSDos/Windows to a .dsk image that can be read in NitrOS9? I can get files to RSDos format but there are two problems. First being that I can’t seem to read the files from NitrOS9, the other being that if I want to convert a 1mb file, then I’m stuck.

So what am I missing here? How do I do this?

Hi all, just got a coco3 at a thrift store this week. After 1 hour using it it died. Turning it on showed me only black and white stripes. So I opened it (it still had the seal, it was sad :S) and I found this:

I’ve already ordered the same capacitors to replace them (I’m gonna replace all capacitors!). My question is: is that possible that caused a major failure on system, or just putting brand new equivalent capacitors should work fine ?

Thanks,

A problem I’m running into is that many (Most) of the images I’m finding, are being reported (By the HcX program) as 63 track single sided. I’ve tried to look at all of the Coco’s floppy formats and none of them use 63 tracks. So what the deal? How do folks use thes images? Attached is a sample of one. BTW these images work fine in VCC. (I had to change the extention from dsk to txt.)

I have decided to sell my copy of Diecom’s Iron Forest game for the
Color Computer. The package comes with the manual, two floppies, one
Sega Phaser light gun, and one adaptor box. All originally bought from
Diecom.

They were all tested yesterday and work without any problems.

Here are some pictures of the actual pieces I am selling:

http://www.macmess.org/images/Sega_Phaser.jpg

http://www.macmess.org/images/Adaptor_Box.jpg

Here is an advertisement for the game:

http://www.macmess.org/images/TheRainbow_1987Nov_pg2.pdf

If you are interested, please email me (tlindner [at] macmess [dot] org) an offer.

I do not know if the light gun hardware will work with the VGA adaptors
that are available now-a-days. It will work well with RF, Composite and
RGB output of the CoCo 3.

For those who have not seen it yet, here is an article I wrote
describing how the interface box works.

First, apologies for the site being so intermittent. There are still optimizations to do for better performance, but it should not be down anymore.

I have a question for all of you, please let me know what you think.

As you have no doubt noticed there have not been a lot of changes here since I took over the site from the previous owner. Here are a few thoughts about what has crossed my mind.

- switch to a forum format (keeping all of the original posts of course)
- moving all downloads to ftp.coco3.com (which is almost done being built and initially populated)
- use the current format as more of what it was meant to be – a blog, so it would be a separate section to the site, where I will post things once in a while about what I have been fiddling with. Any large posts on How-To’s, reviews, etc currently here would be kept in the blog format.

Let’s hear what you have to say.

I would like to know if anyone has started code for this project yet. here’s my ideas’s for such a thing.

#1 A modern interpeter that does DECB basic with add on’s for newer video modes, along with Basic09 same add ons. and a C interpeter

#2 it should be done so as to be portable across all platforms. windows and linux. I like linux better because it’s free.

#3 it should be able to take advantage of newer file systems like the ones used in linux. Why try and use something strange or untested.Nothing wrong with using or keeping the old file formats for use with old stuff. but it would be nice to be able to cut and paste from the older image formats to a newer file system. Thats the best way of using newer big Hard drives.

also by including C. programmers would have access to C compilers on the native systems

I was thinking of starting a system interpeter like my Idea listed in #1 above starting with DECB basic and going from there.

Also people here should check out the Raspberry PI project. Maybe there’s A place for A VR coco4 on a system to teach programming. Any thoughts…

Urgent message from Roger Taylor. Please echo to other forums.

I’m looking for a developer to take on the rights to the MicroSD Drive Pak product.

Due to several problems I am unable to deliver the MicroSD Drive Pak back orders in a timely manner that is acceptable. My right eye has become blurry and may be due to a welding mishap last year but I don’t know yet. I am also pressed to get the Phoenix IDE packaged up as promised to waiting customers. I want to focus my CoCo projects on software again and I expect to release impressive software and games on 2GB and higher MicroSD cards in the future for Drive Pak owners.

I have sold a lot of MicroSD paks and there are still e-mails coming in from eager customers. So the business is still good. Any time they are run on ebay, they sell.

I’ll have to verify but there are about 26-30 pending MicroSD Drive Pak orders. I have the pak boards which are labeled with the exact part #’s to be soldered in. They are not surface mount which is good because anybody with a soldering iron can assemble these boards. I’ll include all parts that I have in stock to help get you started, including the remaining pak cases and screws, etc.

In order to help in the transition, I will stay in contact with free tech support on any matter whatsoever and help in producing enough parts for the back orders.

This is not a partnership but a transfer of ownership of the MicroSD Drive Pak product rights. I estimate that it will take about $600 to finish the back orders, so you can consider that your buying price to all rights.

I will help when needed with any technical matters and with ordering any needed parts. These paks are rock solid and to date I have had no repair requests from hundreds sold.

Send me an e-mail for more details if you are truly interested.

I’m desperately searching for some info on interfacing to the color computer. I’d like to get as many digital outputs from the coco as possible. Much like interfacing to the pc’s paralell port, I’d like any info on interfacing to the coco I can find. I know there used to be tons of articles in coco magazines unfortunately I didn’t save those mags (know I wish I did!)

I need to simply get digital i/o out of the coco and be able to turn the lines on and off with basic. If anyone has any ideas or can help me find some info, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

I recently won a job lot on ebay and buried in the box was this.

http://imgur.com/a/LdJmP#0

I have been trying to find out more about it as I had no clue as to what it was. So far the most valid explanation is part of a CoCo development kit.
Does anyone know any more about it? I have asked in a couple of places and am fairly sure it is a CoCo dev cart but know nothing more than that…

If this is the wrong section apologies but I don’t really know where it should go….

Hi everyone,

a couple of month ago I was dreaming of a coco 3 rendering texture mapping in realtime. And finally I think I did it: If everything goes well I will post a DSK so you can try it out. Here is a screenshot attached, showing MESS emulation running.
The demo has a predefined path and no user control. It features high precision texture mapping with perspective correct, mip-mapping and distance shading. The floor and ceiling are texture mapped too using perspective correction but I had to trade texture resolution for speed, so basically it is more-or-less a sort of infinite carpet.
It runs at about 5 frames per second, and works on a plain 128KB coco 3. I have tested it with floppy (MESS,VCC) and DrivePak (real coco).

How do you all connect your RGB output of your Coco3s to modern display hardware? I designed and built a simple converter for the RGBI digital output on the Commodore 128, which connects to an arcade CGA converter, which can attach to a VGA monitor. There is a thread here:

http://www.commodore128.org/index.php?topic=4040.0

I can do a similar thing for the Coco, which would give a relatively cheap (around $100 for the whole system) and high quality solution. Do you think there would be much interest in this kind of device from the Coco community?

Hello,

I am a CoCo enthusiast from way back. I recently bought Roger’s CocoNET Drive Pak with 2GB MicroSD card. I have installed CoCoPAK 1.0.52 on a windows XP laptop to transfer disk images. I want to create another RSDOS partition to load up more images on the 2GB card, but every time I try, the software tells me “Card Full”. I know that it’s not a write-protect problem, because I can overwrite existing segments in the DOS partition. I also believe that there should be free space on this card, because the last partition is around position 0×320000. Assuming the units for these positions are 256-byte sectors, then only 800MB is being used on this card. Has anyone added a new RSDOS partition to the stock card image? Can someone suggest how I can do this?

Thanks,

Richard

Hi, newbie here and i warn you my english is not so good.

I tried to reply to this post, but i think im too late:

http://www.coco3.com/community/2008/04/gates-of-delirium-2

I played that game when i was around 15 and i solved it by luck i guess because i had no clue what i was doing, i had the game without docs by a friend and had to discover all by myself.

I really enjoyed playing that game and solved it by the fourth try.
It well over 20 years ago so i will try to remember the best i can. I agree the dungeon to the south with invisible stuff is a major turn off, its almost impossible to solve it. At the second attempt to ther game, i was going good but teleported into a squeletton in the small island and the game was over, it took me too much time to get there and the world was ”overpopulated” so it had to happen i guess.

I think the best way to solve the game is create your character as the barbarian with maximum strenght and dexterity. Dont choose fancy magic user; the game is too hard and is based on fighting.
Only use bows (the first affodable and next the better one) for your caracter, zanzibar and sheenan i think. So when you fight, the three bow user stays close together in place and the others wait behind for hand to hand combat wich take time and you can protect theses caracters this way (gazer, merlin and ?).

Like Ricojack said, map the dungeons and then reload to go straight to the ladders or fountains. A small square for each level where you note in it the aproximate location of ladders for each level was enough. Instead of pay for curing and healing, return to the dungeons with the fountains this way you save money.

Before leaving the first world (when everybody is maxed and you got the best weapons), do youself a favor and clean every city and castles. I did kill everybody (yes i had some remorse, but…) the kings, the guards, then everybody around, pick the money and finally steal all you can in peace without being disturbed. Purchase ALOT of foods and torch and you are ready to go into the super dungeon. There is shrines at the second world, but i didnt saw the need for it, its kind of too late, they sould have been around in the first world, it would have been much easier and logical.

I remember it was a blast to play because it was a ”fast” game.
Later i purchased the excellent and beautiful game the seventh link but didnt have the time to solve it. I had big trouble in the dungeons, and it was really time consuming and didnt solve any of them and gets gradually discouraged.

Thanks

I didn’t pay too much attention, but I thought there were some messages indicating that there was a glitch in the production of the wireless RS-232 device because of the decreased availability of the Bluetooth dongle? Would there be a vast problem replacing the Bluetooth dongle with the 802.11x dongles that I have seen advertised to update old notebooks that were produced in the pre-wireless days? True, that would mean that the user would also need a wireless router but there are quite a few of those now, also.

I aquired my Raindow IDE registration when I bought my COCO DVD a few years back. my old computer died (along with ut’s hard drive) and I lost all my files. I pulled the DVD out ant my new computer would not even recognize it. I didn’t worry too much as most of the stuff is in various places on the net. I downloaded 2 versions of Rainbow IDE (1.4 & 1.6 I think) and my old key would not work with them. Do I have to buy another copy of this? I don’t really mind… but would kike to know before I shell out more bucks.

I just replied to a poster who was asking for an original magazine hard copy, I don’t have the one he/she is looking for, but I do have over 900 digital documents created from scans of the originals I have gathered from various other archives.

Attached is the readout in a txt document that has a listing of the documents I have. I tried my best to remove duplicates but some may remain.

If you want a document that I have, please send me a PM. If the file is over 10mb I will have to upload it to my website or skydrive for you to download.

Years ago, I built a capacitance meter that attached to the casette input jack. It allowed me to plug unknown values into the circuit, hit a key and the 555 timer circuit would send a signal into the coco. THere was an assembly language routine that would time the ramp, convert the value and print the equivalent capacitance value. Anybody remember this nifty device?

CoCoBoot Version .47a has been released.

Welcome to CoCoBoot

CoCoBoot, is a tiny Forth interpreter/compiler that is designed
as a flexible booting solution for the Tandy Color Computers 2 and 3.
It is small enough to fit into the boot sector of a standard Disk
Extended Color Basic type disk, and loaded via BASIC’s DOS
command. CoCoBoot also can be CLOADM’ed and LOADM’ed by the Color
Computer’s native BASIC, or burned on to a ROM.

Requirements:

A CoCo2 or CoCo3 with 32k RAM and Extended Color Basic ROM. Some sort
of disk drive is nice, but *not* absolutely required.

Disk Support

CoCoBoot has support for the standard Color Computer’s Floppy Drive
controller, DriveWire 4, Glenside IDE, SuperIDE and It’s associated
Flash ROM. In the future, additional devices may be supported.

Some interesting things one can use CoCoBoot for:

1. Raw copy DriveWire disks to real floppies, and vise-versa.
2. Copying boot sectors from one disk to another.
3. Install custom patches to BASIC.
4. Programming Forth.
5. Automatically compile and run Forth scripts at boot time.
6. Dabbling with your coco.
7. Fix a file system.
8. Boot your Machine!

Hi Everyone,

I found this sight when I was researching some Electronic Book Games I have from when I was a kid. I have Maze Master (26-2541), The Number Factory (26-2543) and Word Wizard (26-2544) all complete and for sale. I have them listed on eBay. I hope this is ok to post this on here, just thought that one or two of you may be looking for something like this. Unfortunately, I do not know what they are currently worth, so I will not take offers on them. eBat listing starts 10/13/11 12PM PST and ends 10/18/11 12PM PST

Cheers,
Only difference that I can see is that Windows 7 lists XP with Service Pack 3 and Vista list XP with only Service Pack 2. I don’t know enough about the guts of Windows to know if this is a significant difference or not.

Ok, I’m getting a Dragon. Have a coco 1/2/3, so I’m here collecting thoughts about the Dragon. On paper it looks pretty good – a 64k coco2 with a composite out and parallel port. Very nice! Compatible with the basic we all know and sort of love, here are the caveats I’ve discovered so far: 1) for ML programming, keymapping is different. 2) Dragon will read coco cassette’s, but not tokenized basic because the tokens are different. But that actual audio (ascii and ML files) should be compatible, correct?

Anyway, I should be getting one in the mail pretty soon, I’ll do my own “testing.” Here’s a question: ignoring keymapping/etc, can I plug in a coco cartridge and expect it to load and execute, or will there be smoke and flames?

I would like to know how to load the program. It is in the form of a memory dump. Written on the cassettes is the 3 hex numbers. The first two numbers is the first and last address in memory it will be loaded to. The third number is the starting address for the program. I have see a pdf file for a manual for the Disk version but now the tape cassette version. Got any ideas?

Hello all,
I have a SD Drive Pak. I have been unable to get either of these programs to work (both disk images obtained from the Coco Software Repository). I transferred them to the SD card using the Coco PAK program.
Pitstop 2 shows as *.BAS and on running crashes and the top half of the screen is jumbled and it freezes.
Pitfall 2 is a BIN file – the loader screen appears, but it shows Disk Read Error following a memory check.
I have been trying to run both on a 128k Coco 3.
I am really keen to have a go on these on the real hardware. I would appreciate it if a fellow user could enlighten me if I am doing something wrong or if somebody could email me a disk image that works ok, or if a CAS file could be obtained that I could load in using Cocotape.

Cheers

Dear fellow CoCoNuts,

I’ve never introduced myself formally in over 26 long years of being a strong CoCo user and programmer. My name is Roger Taylor. I’m 43 as of June 7; a dad of 2 great kids, and a good person All Around. Only a few have spoken with me on the phone in all these years. No CoCoNut has met me in person. I’m kind of a reserved guy.

As the creator and admin of coco3.com for over 10 years, I want to thank each and every single person who gave me a chance to be there when you had questions, requests, suggestions, donations, thanks, contributions, attacks, threats, disputes, kudos, and praises.

I’ve enjoyed EVERY SINGLE minute I’ve put into my CoCo hobby and business. Nobody will ever know how much sleep has been lost over the years making sure CoCo3.com had something for everybody. I worked my ass off for each and every single CoCoNut as if he was paying me by the hour. Through my marriage, through my child’s births, through my divorce, and through good and bad times, rich and poor, I can think back to any life situation and remember what I was working on for the CoCo at the time.

No matter what has been happening in my life, I have NEVER stopped putting time almost each day into my CoCo responsibilities. Even today I’m still dedicated to producing new content for the CoCo and Reasons to keep using it!

Although though I’m not going away, it’s time to pass CoCo3.com along to another CoCo expert who wants to keep the site going.

When godaddy finally removed the name from my account 30 minutes ago, I almost got a lump in my throat. She will be gone when they finalize the transfer. The site will probably be down for a bit during the migration process.

With the funds earned from the sale of the web site, I will complete my back orders much sooner and continue producing anything that is in demand.

One thing is for sure… I’m not going anywhere, and I’m full of surprises. So, with those words, I hereby hand over my job as CoCo3.com admin and owner to a fellow CoCoNut. The new owner will be known soon enough and perhaps he will make his own announcement if needed.

Your friend,
Roger Taylor

I started trying to wire up my own hi-res joystick adapter today, and after I got about 4 resistors soldered up to the 3900, I started thinking to myself that I really would rather have the commercially produced product.

So, I’m looking to buy a Hi-Res Joystick adapter. I’m thinking the Tandy model would be preferable. I’m also considering getting a Color Mouse to use with it.

Incidentally, I already tried wiring up the PS/2 mouse adapter with two 16F505 microcontrollers that I got as free samples, but I think the PS/2 mice I have need a slightly higher voltage or more current than the joystick port provides, as when I’d plug in the mouse, the pointer would jitter once, then wouldn’t respond.

Has anyone been able to run NitrOS-9 Multivue on a real CoCo 3 from a 3.5″ diskette? I don’t have any double-sided 5.25″ drives to test the image with – or at least not any I have a convenient way of using, so I tried writing it to a 3.5″ diskette. Trouble is, I can’t get the diskette to boot. The NitrOS-9 boot screen always comes up, but it always stops at seemingly random places. Sometimes the lines of characters that indicates modules or drivers being loaded get written out all the way to the end, then the boot screen says ‘failed’, other times it just freezes in the middle of things.

I can boot the text-based NitrOS-9 Level 2 disk image from this drive without any problems, so I thought the problem might be the format of the disk image not matching the physical media, but I don’t know how to go about fixing that.

Any help?

The next Coordinated Color Computer Conference will be this Wednesday, June 22 at 10PM EST (7 PM PST). Sorry for the late notice, we had been planning this for a while but I forgot to announce it.

The CoCoCoCo is a somewhat regular Skype conference where we talk about all things CoCo. Everyone is welcome to join. Sometimes we have guest speakers or do interviews with famous CoCo celebrities. Sometimes these are planned, sometimes they just happen.

Our general topic this week will be the recent CoCoFest, but pretty much anything goes.

If you would like to attend, and have not attended a past conference, please either send a Skype invitation to ‘spogbiper’ or email me your Skype username and I will invite you. Anyone who has ever attended before does not need to do this a second time.

I had a thought for CoCoFest 2012. How about having it somewhere in Ontario, Canada. Or perhaps in Erie, PA USA. Reason I think it might be a good idea is to have it in a central location so we can get more people to attend. Such as lots of the Canadian CoCo users.

Just a thought thats all. I would also be happy to help organize and plan it.

Message Subject/Topic says it all. I want to write a game for the CoCo 1/2 and limit it to a single 64k image/file.

What books should I get? What specific magazines/issues would be helpful? What assembler should I use?

Also more importantly, Can you explain to someone who is a noob what are things I shouldn’t do (ie: I want to use the original coco 1/2 resolutions/colors but I also want it run on a CoCo 3 without problems.)

Need input ASAP as I’d like to have something to show at the next Rainbowfest.

Thanks!

Am I being a girl or this thing tough to control? It seems like the slightest back pedal and I come to a stop. And even while stopped people at a walking pace can mow me down?

Perhaps I don’t have this configured right in MESS or perhaps this is one of the few titles where you really need a real analog coco stick?

I really want to get into this game but it’s so difficult!
